Drop goal legend inspiring VLUK's students

What a lesson for our Castleford students last week! VLUK tutor, Jordan Wimpenny was teaching his class about the skeletal system and considering the different types of joints in the body, how they move and how they allow us to perform various movements. In order to demonstrate this theory to the class, Jordan used sporting video clips to illustrate his point. Jordan used golfers swinging a club in slow motion to show how different joints worked and then the action of drop kicking a ball in rugby league. Unbeknown to Jordan on the ’25 best drop goal’ video that he used from YouTube, number 14 was the Castleford site coach, Tony Smith*, kicking the only drop goal of his professional career – a last minute kick to secure a draw for Great Britain against New Zealand….. by chance, Tony Smith was sat in the lesson!

At VLUK, our professional, motivational and innovative leaders are are always aiming to drive and encourage our students in a variety of ways. This lesson was certainly inspirational and memorable for VLUK's Castleford students and also fabulous memories for club coach Tony Smith.

*Tony Smith had an impressive Rugby League career playing for Castleford, and Wigan Warriors, including playing in the 1998 and 2000 Super League Grand Final’s. He represented England and played in the 1995 and 2000 Rugby League World Cup including playing in the 1995 Final versus Australia. Tony Smith also achieved the highest possible honour by being selected to play for Great Britain.
